Our Center for Innovation, Technology and Quality in Thalheim (near Leipzig/Halle/Berlin) is home to over 200 experts driving advancements in solar cells and modules, “Engineered in Germany.”
We are currently looking for an outstanding Principal Expert for Integration & Failure Analysis to strengthen our R&D team and drive the development of next-generation perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells. This role is designed for a deep technical expert who drives innovation through scientific excellence and system-level understanding.
Your Role: Deep Technical Leadership & System-Level Understanding
As a Principal Expert, you will act as the highest-level technical authority in integration and failure analysis topics. You will focus on complex problem solving, deep physics understanding, and technology breakthroughs across perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell architectures, without primary people management responsibilities.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Technical Excellence & Problem Solving:
- Lead the resolution of most complex and critical integration and performance issues
- Develop a deep understanding of process–material–device interactions, including perovskite absorber layers and interfaces, across tandem architectures
- Identify fundamental performance limitations and hidden loss mechanisms
Advanced Failure Analysis:
- Own and drive high-impact deep-dive analyses for critical yield and reliability challenges
- Combine process, metrology, and PL/EL datasets to uncover non-obvious root causes
- Define new methodologies and standards for failure analysis at scale
Scientific & Methodological Leadership:
- Establish best-in-class approaches for data analysis, root cause methodology, and system understanding
- Drive physics-based interpretation of experimental and production data
- Introduce new concepts, tools, and analytical frameworks
Cross-Functional Technical Influence:
- Act as key technical advisor across R&D, characterization, and production
- Challenge assumptions and guide teams toward robust technical solutions
- Contribute strongly to technology strategy and architectural decisions
Your Profile: World-Class Expertise
We are looking for a recognized expert with deep technical knowledge and a strong track record of solving complex problems.
Your Qualifications:
- PhD in physics, materials science, engineering, or related field (strongly required)
- 10+ years of experience in photovoltaics, semiconductors, or advanced device technologies
- Proven expertise in integration, device physics, and/or failure analysis
- Strong experience with complex data interpretation and statistical analysis
- Deep understanding of process-device-performance relationships
Highly desirable (not mandatory):
- Experience with perovskite solar cells or perovskite-silicon tandem technologies
- Understanding of perovskite-specific degradation, interfaces, or material interactions
- Demonstrated track record of solving high-impact technical challenges
- Strong ability to influence without formal authority
- Excellent communication skills in an international environment
Why Qcells?
- Take a key technical authority role in next-generation perovskite-silicon tandem solar technologies
- Work on cutting-edge tandem architectures
- Collaborate with top experts in a highly innovative environment
- Access to industrial-scale data and advanced characterization capabilities
